The workshop is a cross-faculty initiative - open to the research community in the Faculty of Life Sciences, the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
This programme is designed for people who are new to public engagement and offers lots of practical advice.
Course details
On this practical course you will:
- Explore what makes great public engagement.
- Learn how to engage effectively with different audiences.
- Try out and evaluate a range of hands-on activities that have been used in the past.
- Explore and generate new ideas for public engagement activities.
- Devise interactive activities that will help you explain your research.
- Collaborate with researchers from across a range of science and engineering disciplines.
- Identify potential opportunities at which to showcase different types of activities.
The course is all about developing confidence, networks and experience in public engagement. The aim is that by the end of the day you will form teams to work further on an idea to pitch at the follow-up Dragon's Den event in January.
Winning ideas will be given funds up to the value of £150. Experienced public engagement mentors will also be assigned to offer your team advice and support and help bring ideas to fruition.
The first workshop in this programme will be held on Tuesday 4 December (9.30am - 2pm). For more information, including how to book your place, click here.
