Remedial work continued over the Christmas break to ensure the facility re-opens in time for the exam period.

The Alan Gilbert Learning Commons will open between 9am and 5pm from Monday 7 to Sunday 13 January. 24 hour swipecard access will begin at 9am on Monday 14 January.

The building has been closed since late October, when a glass panel forming part of the internal atrium shattered, raising concerns over the safety of the facility. Before closing, the new Learning Commons proved to be a popular place to study, and students were rightly frustrated to see it close so soon.

Staff from the Library and Estates have been working hard since the closure to ensure that the effect to your studies would be as small as possible.

Until the Learning Commons re-opens, you'll still have access to the facitilies and resources you need to keep on working. The Main Library will be open 24 hours a day from 2 January, and most other library sites are also open. Check the library website for full details.

If you didn't manage to experience the Learning Commons before its premature closure, take a student-led video tour.
