Perhaps an exciting holiday is your idea of the perfect break, or maybe you feel finding a vacation job is a better way to spend your time. If you are undecided then why not consider a summer internship?
With a summer internship or job you could boost your CV, develop new skills and those all important contacts that could get you on the fast track to your dream job. A summer internship can help you to focus your thoughts and ambitions as you gain experience within a specific field. Plus it can also help you to explore your options and develop your confidence which will essentially help you in the long run.
The University’s Careers Service has an excellent range of resources, services and workshops which can help you with summer internship applications. The Careers Service website also has a great database which offers a variety of job and internship opportunities available to you, plus lots of downloadable guides. Pursuing a summer internship can feel like an enormous challenge. Knowing whether to choose between big and small companies or finding an internship in a big city, at home or even abroad can seem quite daunting. However, the University’s Careers Service is here to guide and help you whatever your plans.
Darya, who graduated with an LLB Law in 2012, pursued a number of internships in New York: “[Summer internships are] a great way to gain new skills or enhance those acquired through academics… the best thing about internships is they help you to expand your network of professionals in your chosen field”. Darya’s internships throughout her time at university have certainly paid off as she is currently working part-time as a paralegal at a top solicitor in Manchester whilst studying for her LPC at The Collage of Law. |
Of course you don't need to go all the way to New York to find great opportunities.
