Police appeal for witnesses after serious incident
Published on 26 March 13
Following a serious incident on Platt Lane last week, Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them
Such incidents are extremely rare, but we encourage anyone staying in Manchester over the Easter period to continue to take care. These simple tips from the Students’ Union are a good place to start:
- If you are out at night, try to stick to busy streets and near other people. Avoid danger spots and short-cuts such as poorly-lit areas, deserted parks, or quiet alleyways and walk facing on-coming traffic to avoid kerb crawlers.
- Think about getting a personal safety alarm. Alarms are available for free from the Advice Service. Keep it in an easily accessible place and carry it in your hand if you feel at risk.
- Try to plan ahead. Make sure someone knows where you are going, who you are meeting and when you expect to return. Always plan how you are going to get home again.
- Know your limit. Alcohol will dull your instincts and can lead to you making unsafe decisions.
You can find more detailed advice on the Students' Union welbeing pages.
