Avoid becoming a victim and keep updated with crime on campus

There have been a number of laptop thefts on campus, particularly - although not exclusively - in the Main Library. Make sure you keep your valuables with you. It only takes a matter of seconds and your belongings could be gone.

The Manchester Student Safety Facebook page is updated by Greater Manchester Police, and provides useful advice on how to protect yourself and your belongings.

What happens if I lose my laptop with all my work on it?

In most cases, losing your work is not a valid excuse for mitigation. This is why it is really crucial that you keep your work backed up in case your computer breaks or gets stolen.

Backing up your work on your p:drive is simple. Simply login to My Manchester and click My Documents in the top right. By saving your work here, all your work will be safe if the worst happens to your computer.

Criminals have accessed the library by tailgating people inside.

Be aware of anyone tailgating you and alert a member of staff if you see anyone tailgate. You might feel like a fool, but you could prevent a theft.
