Accessing careers advice after graduation
Published on 30 May 13
You can still use the Careers service for 2 years after you graduate so find out how to access the service as a graduate
What help is available?
The Careers service offer lots of different appointments to suit your needs. Here’s a breakdown of what’s available:
- Applications advice - 15 minute appointment to get feedback on an application prior to sending it off.
- Guidance appointments - prebookable appointments to discuss career planning.
- Practice interviews - to help you improve your technique. Only one of these will be available per person per academic year.
- Blogs, Facebook and Twitter - where you can find insider tips and ask questions.
- Downloadable handouts, videos and online psychometric tests..
- Events - Workshops including getting started sessions, Skills sessions, Employer information sessions and fairs.
All appointments can be booked in person or over the phone and applications advice appointments can also be booked online through Careerslink.
Accessing the Careers Resource Centre
You can still access the Careers Resource Centre with your student card after you graduate and you will need to know your ID number to book appointments. You will not be able to access PCs at the resource centre however, like all PCs on campus, only current students can access these.
From September 2013, The Careers service will be moving to the first floor of University Place so that is where you’ll need to go for appointments, booking and the Careers Resource Centre.
Accessing CareersLink
You will need to change your email address via you’re My Manchester portal before you graduate. This means that if you forget your username or password, your reminder won’t get sent to an expired email account.
Your graduate username and password will remain the same as your student one (your central username and password).
Accessing Careers advice away from Manchester
Some advisors offer Skype guidance/mock interview appointments but these are subject to availability. All advisors however offer telephone appointments so if you will be living away from Manchester, you can arrange a 30 minute appointment with a careers consultant.
