Find out how you could win yourself an internship or funding to develop your ideas into real projects

IQuBit Grand Challenge

Develop a social network building solution/idea to win an internship with XLR Group and other prizes.

IQuBit, the UMI3 Digital Accelerator and XLR Group have set a challenge for students and graduates at The University of Manchester to develop ideas around the social media/social networking solutions of a new web, mobile and location based service.

The company has a fantastic technical team but wants to draft in a creative and innovative person to help bring this new idea alive. Your concept will be judged both on your description, technical knowledge and how you visualise it. Whether using wireframe, betas, storyboards, images, sketches, PowerPoint or video - the key is making your concept clear to understand.

How to apply

1. Please register online your details to express your interest in taking part in this Grand Challenge

2. Once we have received your registration details, we will send you a confidentiality agreement to sign

3. Following receipt of this signed CDA we will then disclose further information regarding the platform you will be helping to develop, how the event will run and the prizes/benefits you could receive

4. Due to the exciting but sensitive status of this concept, you will not be allowed to take part in this event unless we have received a signed CDA

Summer of student Innovation

Students who join the Summer of Innovation will get the chance to create real technology solutions, have the technology they create adopted by universities and join events where they can meet other student teams as well as technical experts.

The Futures Forum, a group of five UK education and research organisations are joining forces to encourage teams of developers and innovators to use their skills to enhance the UK’s higher education experiences.

Andrew McGregor, Jisc programme manager and Futures Forum member explains, “We are offering £5,000 per student team, to develop new technology that could improve education, research and university life. The teams will be selected through an open call for ideas. Successful teams will also be given opportunities to join workshops to allow them to network with fellow students and experts to further their ideas.

“After the projects have run, the technology developed by the teams will be embedded for a trial period in volunteer universities. Products that are successful in the trials will be provided to other interested parties through sustainable routes.”

To enter your ideas and encourage your fellow students to vote for your suggestions visit the Summer of Student Innovation website or follow #studentideas on Twitter.
