If it’s taken you longer to settle down at University than you thought it would, or if you’re unhappy with the course you are doing, speak to somebody who can help you.

Things to consider if you’re unhappy

You are less likely to achieve your full potential if you’re unhappy with your course so don’t bury your head in the sand. If you’re not enjoying your course you need speak to somebody about it to find if there are any ways to improve your experience or if you should make any changes.

Changing courses or leaving University is a big decision and there are many things you should consider before taking action. Do you want to stay in Manchester? Have you got the right prerequisites for the course you’d like to change to? Is there something you can do to improve your experience?

If you’re in this situation and are considering leaving your course or leaving University altogether, it is best that you speak to somebody before you make any final decisions that could impact your studies.

Your academic advisor is the best person to address this problem with. Many students struggle to settle in or feel as though they have chosen the wrong course and your academic advisor has more than likely helped students who were in the same position as you.

If you would prefer you could also speak to your course director or student support officer, they will be able to offer you with advice and help to enable you to make the right decision whether that is to stick with your course or to move onto something different.

Don’t make the decision alone, ask for help.
