The University has announced plans to enhance the student experience by investing £1bn to create a world-class campus.
An exciting and ambitious plan for a single campus with modern new facilities for teaching, research and student services has been unveiled.
The first phase, costing around £700m, is set to happen over the next six years.
Planned improvements in this initial stage include;
- new teaching and research buildings and refurbishment of current facilities
- a major refurbishment of the Library
- a bigger and better Students’ Union
- major upgrades to IT systems
Longer term, a new health centre for staff and students and refurbishment of further buildings is proposed.
The University will also invest in a Combined Heat and Power Facility for the campus, as part of its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
Since 2004, the University has spent over £600m on buildings and facilities to support the student experience – including the new £24m Alan Gilbert Learning Commons student learning space.
