Swimming World record broken by University of Manchester student

The 200m Butterfly disability swimming world record has been broken by Eleni Papadopolous, a Medieval Studies student in the faculty of Arts, Languages, and Cultures.

Eleni, a University of Manchester sports scholar,  broke the world record whilst competing at the British Universities and College Sports competition in Sheffield. She previously held the British record but she also now holds the world record with an astonishing time of 2:37.52 for the 200m Butterfly.

Not stopping there, she also broke the British 50m Butterfly record, which she held previously, with a time of 33s16.

She can now add this to her long list of achievemnets as Eleni was named the NPower Disability Young Achiever of the year in 2010 she is a double silver European medallist, has been British champion for four years, and currently holds six British records.

Her next long-term ambition is to qualify for the 2016 Paralympic Games.
