Learn something new

Make the New Year count, get involved and learn something new!

Here are our five top picks:

Learn a language

The International Society offers a range of informal, language classes taught by volunteers. There’s a massive range of languages on offer - from Arabic and Mandarin to French and Spanish.  Or you can take advantage of the Language Centre language courses.  Located within the Samuel Alexander building the Centre offers a range of courses and if you have 'free choice' credits courses can contribute to your overall degree.

Join a society

Are you a Harry Potter fanatic? A budding photographer? Or is Bhangra your thing? The University of Manchester offers societies ranging from board games to pole fitness. There’s something for everyone!

Try out a new sport

Don’t think sport is for you? Think again! The University offers a wide range of sport from belly dancing to football. Not only will you learn a new skill but it will automatically give you a brand new social group and guarantee a weekly boost of endorphins and exercise. Check out an A-Z of the sports on offer.

Sign up for a course at the University College

How about a change from your degree? UCIL was created to inspire your imagination and broaden your educational horizons by giving you the opportunity to study a whole new subject outside of your degree discipline (as long as you have some free choice credits). Check out the courses available in semester 2.

Get musical

It’s never too late to try your hand at a new skill or maybe rekindle an old one! So if you always wished you’d picked up a guitar when you were younger – or wish you’d carried on with those piano lessons why not make 2017 the year to do it? Fancy something a bit more social, why not think about a choir – from the Opera and A Capella society choirs  to Manchester Show Choir, if you fancy giving your vocal chords a work out this New Year you’re bound to find the place for you.
