Look out for the Good Neighbours Team around your neighbourhood this Halloween

Published on 30 October 14

In this week's run up to Halloween, Manchester Student Homes' Good Neighbours Team will be working with Greater Manchester Police in Fallowfield and Withington as part of Operation Treacle. This time of year is often associated with spikes in crimes against students, including burglaries and personal attacks. This time of year also sees an increase in complaints relating to noise nuisance or anti-social behaviour from student households, including many complaints made by students themselves.

Along with Greater Manchester Police, The Good Neighbours Team will be door knocking to give advice on staying safe, offering home security checks and giving tips on how to have fun responsibly. The Good Neighbours Team is based at Manchester Student Homes, which offers University Approved accommodation via an accredited landlord scheme. The GNT has been working with accredited landlords to help their student tenants keep safe and remind them about how to be a good neighbour whilst living in the community.

Poppy Humphrey, Off-Campus Student Affairs officer said "as dark nights draw in, we typically see an increase in crime against students, and we're delighted to be working with Greater Manchester Police to encourage students to be aware of their personal safety, as well as providing top tips on how to be a good neighbour. We're seeing a trend in large scale house parties in off campus areas, as well as having a devastating impact on the community, these also place students at risk of personal attack or theft.
