Facebook page

A Facebook page has been created for the use of students in the Manchester area which is updated every weekday by Greater Manchester Police.

This page is a great way of getting valuable advice about how to keep yourself, and your belongings, safe around Manchester. It is also used to gain information about incidents around campus, so it’s worthwhile following this page as you may also be able to help with investigations, by giving information, which could benefit your fellow students.

Free bike marking and bargain £10 locks

There are also many opportunities around campus to get your bike marked, FREE of charge. To find out about future bike marking events, check here.  Once your bike has been marked, you will also be eligible to receive a generous discount on a quality bike lock as, for a limited period between 17 September and 1 October, the University’s subsidised d-locks will be further reduced to only £10 (rrp £35+).

Locks can be purchased via the online shop and collected from the Security Office at the Harold Hankins Building or at a bike marking event (with prior notification). These locks can be purchased here for the subsidised price of just £10, between 17 September and 1 October, once the bike has been marked or is scheduled to be marked.

This initiative aims to reduce the amount of bike thefts which are caused by bikes having poor quality locks, such as cable locks, and to reduce the number of bike thefts around campus each year. You can see some examples of good and bad bike locks here. And if you fancy some free cycle training see www.tfgm.com/cycling.

Further advice about keeping yourself and your belongings safe can be found here - or you can watch this great new video and get tips from your fellow students;
