Learn how to get the most out of your HEAR - a sort of academic transcript for all of the other stuff you do

The Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) is designed to ensure all of your experiences at university are recorded - meaning you have more to show to potential employers.

You can use the HEAR to help understand and develop your knowledge and skills, from the moment you start at The University of Manchester.

There are all kinds of different activities you can record on your HEAR, all of which will give you the skills and knowledge that employers are looking for.

What does this mean for me?

You can use the HEAR to keep track of your achievements while you are studying, and spend some time thinking about what those achievements say about you. What did you learn, and how might that be useful to a potential employer?

You can also use the HEAR to identify any gaps in skills or knowledge that you might want to fill. Use the links in Crucial Guide Live to identify other opportunities to gain these skills.

How do I keep track of my achievements?

Whenever you complete an eligible activity, it will be added to the My Achievements portlet in My Manchester. To access the My Achievements portlet, navigate to the Courses tab, and click on My Achievements. Your achievements are added by the member of staff responsible for each activity, and can be updated any time during the year.

Once you graduate, you can access your HEAR through your personal digital wallet. Using the digital wallet, you can view and print your academic transcript and HEAR, as well as choosing to securely share the documents with potential employers.

How can I use the HEAR in job hunting?

The skills and knowledge you'll gain while completing the HEAR achievements can help give you an edge in the competitive job market. Buit it's no good having a full and rich HEAR if no-one else gets to see it.

You can share your HEAR with potential employers, allowing them access to a secure, digitally-signed copy of your record online. No-one can ammend or delete your HEAR, and you can share it with as many people as you like.

For more information about sharing the HEAR can be found on the edocs website.
