There are plenty of events going on around campus to celebrate International Women’s day on Friday 8th March

Equality and Diversity

10.30am –12 noon, Arthur Lewis Foyer Cake Sale—raising money for Central Manchester Women’s Aid

11am –12.30pm, Samuel Alexander Building S1.7 Working at The University of Manchester—what’s available for me? With speakers from HR, Network Groups and Athena SWAN. Refreshments served.

12.15-2pm, Humanities Bridgeford Street 1.69/1.70 Representation of Women with special guest speakers Prof Helen Beebee (Philosophy) and Prof Colette Fagan (Sociology).

3pm—6pm, Stopford Lecture Theatre 3 Women on Top: Breaking Down Barriers in Pharmacy Booking required: http://pharmacyuom.eventbrite.co.uk/

International Society

6.30pm, International Society, Oxford Road. On Friday 8th March, the International Society will be celebrating International Womens' Day in association with the charity Oxfam. Tickets are £3 and all proceeds from the event will go directly to Oxfam to assist in their work supporting women all over the world.

Women in Science

1pm –2pm, Manchester Museum Women in Science Now and Then. Join three leading ladies for a panel discussion over to find out just what it is like being a women in the competitive world of biomedical research. Booking required: museum.@manchester.ac.uk or call 0161 275 2648

1pm-4pm, Museum of Science and Industry Manchester Girl Geeks workshop. Join ScienceGrrl and Manchester Girl Geeks at MOSI for an afternoon of in the company of vibrant female scientists on 9 March. Try your hand at soft electronics, mathematical magic, or chat to friendly female scientists from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines.

Saturday 9th March

7.30pm-11pm, Gorilla Science Grrl: Manchester – Speed Networking. Studying science at university? ScienceGrrl are arranging a friendly and chilled evening of networking, eats and drinks at Gorilla in Manchester city centre for you. We're aiming this evening mainly at female scientists, but if you're a male scientist and fancy turning up too, you'd be very welcome.
