Council for Assisting Refugee Academics 80th Anniversary art competition: Academic freedom

The Art of Resistance: Defending Academic Freedom is an art competition held as part of CARA’s 80th Anniversary Fellowship Campaign. Originally set up to assist Jewish academics fleeing nazism, with the support of leading British academics including Manchester's own Ernest Rutherford and A.V. Hill, CARA continues to campaign for the rights of academic and artistic freedom around the world.

To enter, you'll need to contribute an A5 piece of artwork on the theme of "academic freedom". Email campaign.cara@lsbu.ac.uk for a competition pack. All submissions will be exhibited online and entered into a charity auction to support the CARA Fellowship Campaign. Prizes of £1000, £500 and £250 will be awarded for three artworks best depicting the theme.

UCAS and the Times writing competition

The Times invites you to describe the joys and demands of studying for a degree in a writing competition launched in collaboration with UCAS UCAS. You will need to explain why you chose your degree subject and say what it has been like to immerse yourself in learning at a higher level.
