A sneak preview of what’s on offer

Here are a few of the courses that University College have to offer next semester.

Who wants to live forever: Challenging myths in human ageing

While increasing life expectancy might be seen as a ‘good news’ story, policy discussions reflect a sense of crisis with a concern about how to finance, or otherwise provide for, the economic dependency and care needs of retired people. These are some of the challenges that will be featured in this course.

The topics covered in this course will be: the biology of ageing; the economics of ageing; older people and citizenship; inequalities in later life; genetics, lifecourse and resilience; culture, consumption, generation, age identity and change.

This course is divided into five themes: (i) future energy needs, (ii) climate change, (iii) quantum physics, (iv) relativity and (v) the origin and fate of the Universe. The themes will be developed by discussion of the underlying fundamental physics, followed by examples of applications and analysis of existing and future challenges.
