Students bring home the Christie Cup
Published on 26 April 12

Across 30 different sports, with 1,500 talented students participating in just one action packed day - Manchester swept to victory this week and claimed the top spot at the 2012 Christie Championships.
The Christie Championships has been a triangular tournament between the Universities of Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester since the 1880s. After the Oxford and Cambridge rivalry, the Christies Championships is the oldest inter-university competition on the sporting calendar.
Competition is fierce and the standard of sport is very high. Manchester has had a great run of Christie victories over the past decade alone, and is proud to bring the Cup home again this year.
2012 highlights:
- Both Men's and Women's swimming shone throughout the day, beating both Leeds and Liverpool for the top prizes.
- Victory against tough competitors Liverpool in Hockey, saw the Women’s team winning 5-0 and Manchester Men's triumphing 3-1.
- Unbeatable in the Football, both Men’s First and Second teams, as well as Women's First and Second teams, defeated Liverpool to take the top spot.
- Dominating in the Snowboard and Ski competitions, Manchester gained both 1st & 2nd place in Men's Snowboard, 2nd & 3rd place in Men's ski, 1st & 2nd place in Women's ski, and 1st & 3rd place in Women's Duals.
