Cheer Manchester to victory in the boat race

Published on 18 May 12

Take a break from the library for a free day out with a difference, and cheer for your University in the 41st annual Two Cities boat race.

Show your purple pride this Saturday 19 May when Manchester go head to head with Salford in a series of nailbiting races.

Races begin at 12:30pm from Salford Watersports Centre and finish at the Lowry Bridge, Salford Quays.

The University of Manchester has dominated the boat race since it began in 1961 but last year Salford’s determination to win made for one of the closest competitions in years. Manchester still managed to row to victory, winning 5-2 overall – come along and show your support to help us win once again!

This year the boat race will form part of a bigger celebration to welcome the start of the London 2012 Games Time in the Northwest. ‘Looping the Loop’ is an Olympic inspired cultural journey featuring art, sport, theatrical performances, interactive experiences and community events around the impressive backdrop of MediaCityUK, Lowry and Imperial War Museum, The Quays and Old Trafford football ground.
