A place to stop if you need it – Student Safe Zones

Published on 24 May 12

Student Safe Zones provide a network of safe havens where you can access guidance, support and practical help, should you feel you need it.

Local businesses along the Oxford/Wilmslow road corridor have put themselves forward to participate in the Student Safe Zone project, identifying themselves as safe places where any student should always feel comfortable to stop in.

If ever you feel threatened or vulnerable, then the Safe Zone stickers identify the businesses as a place happy to help you out, with friendly staff trained in how best to help and support you, should you feel you need it.

Manchester has incidents of crime just like any other big city, and if you are unfamiliar with an area that can be quite a scary thought.

To help all students living in Manchester feel more comfortable –perhaps if you finish a shift at work late, or suddenly find yourself in an unfamiliar area – the Safe Zone initiative has been put in place to highlight the large amount of friendly reputable businesses you are surrounded by, and how may local people are here to help you out.

The initiative has been developed jointly by Greater Manchester Police and the Students' Unions, supported by the universities.
