World-class learning environment set to open its doors later this year

The University's newest addition to the Oxford Road campus, the Alan Gilbert Learning Commons, will offer students a flexible, ultra-modern and stimulating space in which to learn and relax.

Open 24/7, the Learning Commons will include more than 1,000 study spaces and around 400 computers.

There will be facilities for group and independent study, IT-led study or simply quiet time.

To provide inspiration for everybody studying and working in the Learning Commons, its fabric and facilities will celebrate the University’s rich heritage of achievement and innovation.

The AGLC Image competition sourced student contributions of drawing, writing, or images of something that connected you to the University, and which stand out as representative of Manchester students and the Manchester experience. There were so many great entries, the winners are still to be decided. The selected entries will be printed onto the walls, doors and glass panelling of the learning spaces for everyone to see.

As students are at the very heart of the Learning Commons – this space will be a true reflection of you and your aspirations for the future.

How can I access the building?

Have you swapped your student card yet? The new cards benefit from state of the art contactless technology, a bit like an Oyster Card for the London Underground, providing all current students easy access to the AGLC’s facilities.
