It might be hard to think further than the exam period right now, but once you have finished celebrating your hard work, make sure you grab all the opportunities this summer offers.

That might be a summer internship, some valuable work experience or actively pursuing your hobby or interests in a way that can really boost your prospects.

  • Gain some real work experience whilst you can

If you are graduating next year you may want to start thinking about what to do next, the Careers website is designed to help you explore your options or you can drop in and talk to an advisor, or book in for a guidance appointment? Be aware that many graduate schemes are opening soon, and some will be shut by the autumn – so act fast!

If you aren’t graduating next year, you may want to start researching internships for next summer, many are advertised in the autumn and a good application is crucial. Internships provide a foot in the door for many employers, as the Guardian reported a third of graduate jobs last year went to interns! The quick query service can also help you with your applications.

  • Apply now for a careers accredited modules

Career Management Skills will help you enhance your employability and bring you face to face with a number of employers, or the Manchester Leadership Programmecombines volunteering with academic study.

  • Training sessions and advice from experts throughout June

Exams are just a part of what will lead you towards your summer career.   • Still looking for a job?

 Come to the Graduate Recruitment Fair, 13 and 14 June, at the Armitage Centre. Students and Graduates from across the North West travel to this renowned fair, don’t turn up unprepared and miss out.  There will be over 160 employers and course providers who all have immediate vacancies – click here for advice on preparing in advance of recruitment fairs.

 

  • Want to stay in Manchester?

  • Careers help and advice for up to 3 years after you graduate

This includes one-to-one advice (over the phone or by email if you have left Manchester), the information and resources on the careers website and CareersLink, where you can view the latest vacancies and upcoming events. Make sure you update your email address via the My Manchester portal so you can still access CareersLink.
