Thank you for a great year – a message from the President and Vice Chancellor

Published on 24 August 12

As another academic year draws to a close, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all your hard work and contributions and commitment to University life over the last nine months.

I hope you have an enjoyable summer break, whatever you may be doing and wherever you may be going.

And for those of you studying for postgraduate degrees and staying on campus, I hope the months ahead are productive and enlightening.

Many of you will have just finished your exams, and I imagine more study may not be at the forefront of your minds!

But there is already plenty to look forward to next academic year, including the much-awaited opening of the new £25m Alan Gilbert Learning Commons. It has been developed in consultation with students and the Students’ Union to ensure it meets your needs, with 1,000 study spaces, 400 computers, and wi-fi throughout. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you can use it whenever it suits you best. You can find out more about this fantastic building here.

The start of term will also see the launch of The University College for Interdisciplinary Learning. This will draw upon talented and creative teachers from across the University to offer an exciting range of courses that take you beyond the boundaries of your degree programme.

To see what else the University is doing to improve your student experience, you can visit the Enhancing My Manchester Experience web site.

Once again, I wish you a happy and enjoyable break.

Nancy
