Still house hunting for next year?

Whether you're moving out of Halls for the first time, or you're in your second or third student home, choosing a place to live is always a big decision.

There is wide range of student accommodation available in Manchester, so it's a good idea to look around and don't feel pressured to sign up to a property straight away.

The University recommends you choose a landlord who is accredited with Manchester Student Homes, which means they have signed up to the MSH Code of Standards and should manage the property properly. If you have any problems during the tenancy Manchester Student Homes can help.

At this time of year you should check the Manchester Student Homes website regularly, as new properties for rent are being added every day.

When you find a property you like, make sure you don’t take signing a contract lightly – you are signing a legally binding document. It is better to take your time and seek advice before signing, than get a surprise later on. Make sure you know what you are liable for, and what the landlord must provide.

Why not take advantage of Manchester Student Homes’ free Contract Checking Service? You can visit its office in Fallowfield and staff will be happy to check contracts for you before you sign up to a property.

You should also think about your own safety and security – you should never go to view a property on your own. If you view a property during the day, be sure to properly look at the area, will you feel safe walking to your front door at night? Would you trust your belongings were secure in the property when you weren’t there? No matter your budget, or if you are only living in the property part time, you deserve a safe and secure home you feel happy in.
