If a balloon can find its way into your home so can a thief
Published on 21 February 12

If you come home to find a balloon floating through your living room it means your home needs to be more secure against potential thieves
As part of Manchester Student Homes’ Rent Right campaign, Student Safe Officers from Greater Manchester Police will be carrying out security checks on student properties. Rent Right Balloons will be floated into properties that are not secure and could be easily broken into – if you come home to find a balloon floating through your living room it means your home security needs tightening up.
As well as carrying out security checks, Student Safe officers will also be meeting student residents and giving you information and advice about how to keep your home and belongings safe. The initiative will be taking place throughout February and will be focused on student areas that have been targeted by thieves.
Whether you are looking for somewhere to live or are already renting a property, it is always important to think about safety and security. Please remember the following Rent Right advice:
- Keep doors and windows locked, even when you are at home.
- When you are house hunting, think about how secure a property looks and whether it is well maintained. When viewing the properties in the day, work out if you would feel safe coming home to this property on a dark night.
- Choose a landlord who is accredited by Manchester Student Homes.
If you need any housing help or advice, Rent Right advice sessions are held every Tuesday afternoon at the Manchester Student Homes office in Fallowfield (opposite Baa Baa and Tesco). Alternatively you can drop by the office Monday – Friday, 9am - 5pm, ask your questions and get expert advice from the Manchester Student Homes team.
