Get your 5 a day

Include more fruit and veg into meals, start with adding beans and pulses to your dinner, or adding fruit to your cereal in the morning. Here’s 20 easy ways to get your 5 day!

Ditch the ready meals

You're much more likely to eat healthily if you're in charge of what goes into your meals.
There are very few ready meals that are good for you, whatever they say.

So the more of your meal you can make from scratch, the better, as you can monitor how much you put in of what. Channel your inner Nigella and get creative with your housemates! Anyone can learn to cook, try the BBC Food page, it is a great place to start for easy to follow recipes and inspiration.

Don't go shopping hungry

We have all done this before! You often buy more, spend more and make unhealthier choices so have a snack beforehand and plan your weekly food shop in advance.

Get label savvy!

Most supermarkets now have the percentages of your Guideline Daily Amount displayed on the front. Use these numbers as a loose guide and try to stick within the GDA as often as you can.
Also be aware that some food manufacturers will try to make their product seem healthier by reducing the ‘recommended portion size’, especially in sugary drinks. Don't be fooled and read carefully!

The most important meal of the day? Mum wasn’t lying!

It's one of the oldest wives' tales going, but breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Getting a healthy and filling breakfast will kick start your metabolism, wake you up and prevent you from snacking until lunch time. Check out these 25 breakfast hacks from Buzzfeed!
