Published on 20 December 16

We understand that finding the perfect space to study can be difficult, especially with the Main Library and Alan Gilbert Learning Commons being so busy with exam prep. To help, we’re letting you in on our secret study spaces, so whatever your study needs we have you covered for when you need it most.

Manchester Museum

If you venture up to the top floor of the museum you will find the The Study - Manchester’s thinking space .The Study itself is made up of three parts: a gallery, a research space and an expanded collections study centre. In this area you can book out objects from the collection to study, but you can also simply work there.

Good if: you want some inspiration whilst studying.

The Central Library

Situated at the top of Oxford Road in St Peter’s Square, Central Library is a great study space right in the heart of the city. Not only does the Central Library have lots of places to study, including the grand reading room, but it is also home to the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre. The centre holds documents, books and digital resources on race, ethnicity and migration which can help if you are studying anything related.

Good if: you want a city centre location with modern facilities.

Ziferblat

Located on the top floor of an obscure building on Edge Street, this your Northern Quarter secret hangout.  Ran by volunteers, Ziferblat is a social experiment where everything is free inside besides the amount of time you spend there. So make sure yourself at home, bring your laptop and six pence a minute – let’s brew up!

Good if: you’re feeling cakey

HOME

Get cultured with a study-specific trip to HOME on the oh-so cool First Street – with its floor to ceiling windows and light spaces, HOME is a world away from after hours spent revising in dusty, darkened libraries shattered across the city. Grab a coffee from the ground floor café and get work done.

Good if: you work well during the day

Didsbury Library

Want to escape from the hustle and bustle? Just a short journey along Oxford Road, Didsbury Library is the perfect getaway from the commotion of campus study spaces. The library offers a quiet escape with free internet access, a computer cluster and a collection of books to while away the hours off-campus.
