5 alternative ways to relax on campus

Published on 11 January 17

So exam season is upon us, nights are long, mornings are early and the coffee is strong.

Whether you are tackling University exams for the first time or you’re a well-versed finalist, it can be a stressful time for any of us so luckily there is lots you can do here on campus to relax and wind down.

1.       Go for a stroll around Manchester Museum

As mentioned in our secret study spaces, the top floor of the Museum is a way more chill space than the hustle and bustle of the Learning Commons and Main Library. Study breaks can also be taken in the form of a hop and skip down the staircase to the Vivarium to observe the frogs, lizards and snakes. Cool, right?

Did we also mention that our favourite cakey hangout, Northern Quarter import Teacup, is the designated Museum café? Take a well-deserved from revision and exam prep with a pot of loose-leaf tea and a slab of something sweet. Yum!

2.       Wander round The Whitworth

Art is a wonderful cure for banishing those exam-shaped January blues and wherever you are revising on campus, The Whitworth is just a short walk along Oxford Road towards Fallowfield and the mile.

Besides, checking out a new exhibition has got to be a more worthwhile and relaxing study break than another scroll down your news feed

3.       Head to The Wellbeing Rooms

Over in the Simon Building, The Wellbeing Rooms are something of a dream. It’s important to take regular pauses, so swap the desk for the bean bag, switch off and relax in the Chill out room.

How about a massage (or a mani) - with a beauty therapist and osteopath on hand, we know how we are spending our breaks...

4.       De-stress programme

SPORT has put together a schedule of free, drop-in fitness and exercise classes to help you de-stress from the pressures of exams with everything from sunrise yoga to zumba! Check out the timetable and find something for you,
