When applying for jobs or submitting a CV, you have a limited space to sell yourself and capture the attention of the employer. Don’t under-sell yourself by not giving your CV the time and work that it deserves.
You should begin by researching the role and organisation you are applying for. You can then assess whether your CV content and structure is appropriate, or if there are any specific guidelines. Use our “first steps” guide for tips on how to build your CV in different formats, including some good examples.
LinkedIn is another tool that you can – and should – use to further sell your skills and experience. LinkedIn is a global professional networking site, and creating a profile will allow you to make contacts in different sectors, develop a professional profile online and research jobs and organisations. Whether you already have a profile or not, you can find everything you need to make sure you’re making the most of this platform on our website – including a range of guides that will suit your individual needs.
The Careers Service offers help for writing CVs and applications, and can also help with your LinkedIn profile. If you would like the support of one of our experienced Careers Consultants, you can book a 15 minute face-to-face appointment.
