Use your course credits wisely. Sign up for a UCIL course in Semester 1

Everyone has interests outside of their degree, right? I know I did.

There are opportunities available to you to take 10 credit courses to enhance your learning while you’re here. It’s brainer if you have free credits but don’t know what to do with them!

The University College for Interdisciplinary learning (UCIL) gives you the possibility to learn beyond your degree. All units are credited and chosen to fit in your timetable.

It provided me an opportunity to explore other interests outside my degree. Being only 10 credits it gives you the option to do more than one, showing off your CV and give you an opportunity to talk about interesting things. The subject choices are varied and offer a wide range of contemporary topics from all areas of life. From ‘Global Citizenship and Sustainability’ to ‘From Sherlock Holmes to CSI’ to ‘Introduction to spoken Japanese’, there’s something for everyone!

Learning interdisciplinary skills from sources such as UCIL provides you with something extra to add to your profile and will help you stand out in job applications. It truly is one less obstacle between you and the job you want.

During my undergraduate years, I had the option to take several UCIL courses due to my degree flexibility. Looking back, these UCIL course units provided me with some of the most valuable experiences and real life skills. Learning about leadership and volunteering in groups through the ‘MLP’ was incredibly helpful in my personal development. Additionally, enrolling to the ‘Communicating with Confidence’ course helped me improve my presentation and professional communication ability. I used these skills in my summer tourism job in France. I used some of the techniques I’ve learned to show good public relations with clients. I was amazed by how much I have learned from just a 10 credit course!

I believe having a well-rounded education is something that you carry with you after university, and could even possibly be an avenue for a different career path down the line. I like to keep my options open!

Ultimately the most important thing you need is curiosity, the willingness to be proactive and an eagerness to learn.

See what’s available and enrol to stand out.
