UCU have formally notified the University of planned strike action

The University has been formally notified that the UCU trades union will commence industrial action from 25 May 2016; this will involve some staff at The University of Manchester. Whilst recognising the rights of individual members of staff to take industrial action, it is the University’s intention to endeavour to maintain normal operations in order to safeguard the interests of students.

The industrial action will take the form of a two day strike on 25 and 26 May 2016 and staff have been asked to ‘work within contract’ from 25 May 2016.

We expect the assessment, marking and feedback processes will be largely unaffected, however, the University has established a University Examinations Board to oversee decisions on award, classification and progression. Students should expect assessments and examinations to continue as normal, to prepare accordingly and to ensure they submit work on time.
