Celebrating the end of exams

Published on 24 May 17

Summer’s on the horizon and exams about to wrap up. You can soon breathe a big sigh of relief. This time to celebrate should be embraced for all the hard work you’ve done this year.

If you are going out to celebrate with your friends please be mindful that not everyone has finished yet. Our postgrads still have their dissertation to complete. So, whether you’re living in halls or private housing, remember you are part of the wider community that include families, elderly residents or students who have still not finished their year. It’s a shame but in the past there have been students who have gone through disciplinary procedures because of anti-social behaviour.

Look after your mates

If you’re heading into town or going out with mates celebrating, keep an eye out on each other. There are safety zones on Oxford Road that provide a safe environment for you if you feel vulnerable. These include restaurants, shops and other venues on Oxford Road. You can find a full list of businesses participating here, and all businesses display a Student Safety Zone sticker in their window.

Getting home without cash

If you are stuck in town without cash for a taxi, the Students’ Union have a Safe Taxi Scheme where you can leave your student card with the StreetCars Taxi driver, and pay the following day when you collect your card from the Student’s Union Helpdesk. This scheme also gives student a 10% discount and offers fixed fares.

To book, call StreetCars on 0161 228 7878 and quote 'Manchester SU Safe Taxi Scheme' with your full name and Student ID number.

Emergency

Always dial 999 in an emergency, or 101 to report a non-emergency crime.

We Get It!

If you have any issues with disturbances in the community, please ring the Neighbourhood Helpline 01612751863.

This is a time to let loose and celebrate all of your achievements, but please be mindful of the risks when you’re out and about. Take care of your friends and be a good neighbour!
