Published on 10 November 16
Do you always impress everyone with your general knowledge? Can you cope with facing Jeremy Paxman? Then why not apply for the next series of University Challenge!
Find out if you have what it takes with our short online quiz and see how you score.
If you’d like to apply, the first stage is a written test comprising of 100 general knowledge questions, which will take place on Wednesday 23 November 2016. It will start at 2pm, but you can come along at any time provided that you finish by 5pm - you shouldn't need to spend more than about 45 minutes on the test.
Whoever achieves the highest scores will be invited to the second stage later that evening, between 7pm and 8pm, which will test your speed on the buzzer in answering University Challenge starter questions.
Sounds exciting, right? Are you eligible?
If you meet the following three criteria – you can go ahead and apply to be part of the next series of University Challenge!
1) You will still be a student of the University of Manchester when all stages of the competition are filmed - up to (and including) April 2017.
2) You have not appeared on television in University Challenge in either of its incarnations, namely while it was hosted by Bamber Gascoigne between 1962 and 1987 or while it has been hosted by Jeremy Paxman since 1994.
3) You are available for filming at studios in Manchester on all potential filming dates. The first-round matches are scheduled to be filmed during the period 24-27 February 2017, the second-round matches during the period 24-26 March 2017, and the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final during the period 28-30 April 2017.
The test will take place in the Blackett Lecture Theatre in the Schuster Building (building number 54 on the interactive or PDF versions of the campus map.)
