What's open over the holidays?

If you're staying on campus over the Christmas break, or coming back early to get started on revision, make sure you know which services will be available to you.

The Students' Union closes on 22 December and reopens on 3 January. For a full list of opening hours in the run up to Christmas, visit their website.

The Atrium (Careers, IPO and Student Support and Advice) is closed from the 16th – 3rd January. Between 3rd and 13th January we will be open 10-4 and after that resume normal opening hours of 9-5.

The Counselling Service is closed from the 22th December and re-open on the 3rd  January as normal at 9am.

Libraries

The Main Library is open from 8am - 8pm, Monday to Friday and 9am - 5pm on weekends from Saturday, 17 December. The Library will close at 8pm on 22 December and will reopen at 8am on 3 January, when it will be open from 8am to 2am on weekdays and 9am to 2am on weekends until 27 January.

The Alan Gilbert Learning Commons will close at 9pm on Friday, 16 January and will then be open 9am - 9pm, Monday to Friday and 9am - 5pm on weekends. It will be closed 25 and 26 December, and will be staffed by security only on 24 December. 24hr opening will recommence at 9am on 2 January, but will be staffed by security only on that day, normal staffing will resume from 3 January.

Food on campus

The cafés and restaurants around campus will be closing for the Christmas break. You can find their Christmas opening hours on their website.

Halls of Residence

While you are able to stay in your accommodation over Christmas, cleaning will not be available from the 23rd December to the 2nd January inclusive.

Hall Receptions will not be able to accept fee, fine or damage payments after 2pm on Thursday 22nd  December 2016 until Tuesday 3rd January 2017 , so please ensure if you have any money outstanding that you arrange payment prior to the Christmas break.

If you need to contact someone urgently about your halls of residence during the break you can contact the 24 hour campus reception staff at Fallowfield on 0161 306 9900 who will make arrangements for someone to assist you.

Check locally within your halls of residence to find out opening times and dates of receptions, as well as the last meals that will be served in catered halls.

Further detailed information from the Accommodation Office will be sent to all residents by e-mail in mid-December.

Sport

The Sugden Sports Centre closes on the 23rd of December at 6.30pm and opens on the 3rd January as normal.

The Armitage Centre closes on the 22nd December at 11pm and re-opens on the 3rd of January as normal.

The Aquatics Centre will be close at 2pm on 24 December, and reopen on 27 December with reduced hours. Check the website for more details.

The Sport Head Office closes on the 22nd December at 4.30pm and re-opens as usual on the 3rd of January.

IT Help and support

During the Christmas break, the IT Support Centre will not be available to answer any requests submitted by web or via email until the University re-opens on Tuesday, 3 January.

Our telephone support line and self-service help will be available throughout the break, 24 hours a day, so you can look up information or call for help at any time of the day.
