International Volunteering Opportunities Summer 2015

Published on 13 March 15

If you want to step out of your comfort zone and experience something new this summer, you should start thinking about some of our international volunteering opportunities.

Volunteering abroad can be a life changing experience; not only for you but also the people and communities you work with. You'll get to share your skills in another part of the world, enhance your employability, and grow your confidence.

Our Volunteering Team work with partners year-round to find placements; here's what's on offer right now:

Team Uganda

Our exciting new flagship international volunteering project needs volunteers! We are looking for 12 student volunteers to go to Jinja, Uganda this summer (5th August – 6th September) with S.A.L.V.E. International to help make a difference in the lives of street children.

You would be working on environmental, IT and community research projects and helping to deliver running a holiday camp for former street children.

We are looking for students who are good at working in a team, flexible and adaptable, sensitive to other cultures, keen to learn and positively committed to the project.

Sign up for a summer you'll remember!

Volunteer overseas with one of our trusted partners

From VSO International Citizen Service, to Life Foundation and Kids Club Kampala, a real mix of organisations are looking for volunteers to help with their projects overseas. Our Trusted Partners are organisations we can formally recommend to our students.

Find your own volunteering overseas

In addition to the Team Uganda Programme, our Volunteering Team are here to help and encourage you to find your own volunteering opportunities abroad. This can be a challenging and daunting task, not least because there are thousands of organisations that provide such opportunities. There are a number of important factors to consider in order to find an opportunity that has your and the communities' best interests at heart, in an environment that is safe and ethically sound.

Have a look at their Trusted Partners page for more information on the organisations we have established links with.

We have also put together some questions to consider when thinking about volunteering overseas to help and guide you, particularly if you have a particular organisation in mind not listed as one of our Trusted Partners.

If you have any questions about finding a suitable international volunteering opportunity contact the team on volunteers@manchester.ac.uk.
